If you are looking for a peaceful and laid back vacation on the
beach - on the Gulf of Mexico - Sapphire Villa may be the Yucatan
beach rental for you.

This charming 2 bedroom 2 bath villa is located in the state of
Yucatan, in the small fishing village of Chelem, 45 minutes from the
culturally rich colonial city of Merida and 15 minutes from the Port
of Progreso where cruise ships now visit. It is a one hour drive
from Merida airport and a 4 hour drive from Cancun airport.

Our lovely property manager Petra speaks English very well and she
will greet you and help you settle into your vacation villa on the
beach. She can arrange cleaning and laundry service if you desire
and can answer any of your questions while there. She lives just
off the main square (zocolo) in Chelem and just off the beach.

This is the perfect retreat for snowbirds!

Our home is right on the beach. You may want to wake up and have an
early morning swim in the beautiful gulf waters. The gulf is very
calm in the morning. Drink coffee on the terrace and watch the
seagulls and pelicans welcome the day. Most of the year you'll
experience this in complete privacy save a few lone beach-walkers.
You won't find tourists here. This is a place to relax. Read the
books you've never had time to read (or take the time to do some
writing, art work or needlework), nap in the hammock on the terrace,
stroll into the village and practice your Spanish. Just relax....

Sapphire Villa has 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms. The master
bedroom has a queen size bed and the 2nd bedroom has 2 twin size
beds. Sheets and towels are furnished.

The kitchen has a new gas oven/stove, coffee maker, toaster, and a
new full size refrigerator. There is also an electric bottled water
dispenser that serves hot and cold water. The kitchen is equipped
with dishes, utensils, pots and pans and other cooking supplies.
Every room has a ceiling fan. No air-conditioning is needed - the
sea breeze is incredible! There is a radio and CD player but no
TV. Remember this is a place to relax, not to watch the news.
There is a TV antenae if you choose to bring your own though.

The living room and dining room are fully furnished and there are
outdoor chairs for enjoying life on the terrace. Pour a glass of
wine and watch the beautiful sunset. There are at least a dozen
hammock hooks around the house and in the house. Try it, you may
never want to sleep in a bed again!

Our villa has been completely remodeled since buying it with all new
plumbing, electrical, kitchen and bathroom fixtures and tiles and
new tile floor. It is now better than new!

activities and attractions in Progreso Yucatan

In case you get tired of relaxing, there is plenty to do nearby.
Merida is only a 45 minute drive away and is the capital of the
Yucatan. This is a beautiful, romantic and historic colonial city
with festivals, cultural events, wonderful shopping and
restuarants. Take a city tour in a horse and buggy and see the
grand colonial architecture which dates back to the 1500s.

On the outskirts of Merida you will find what we call the American
area, complete with a very nice mall, department stores, Home Depot,
TGI Fridays, Bennigans and Sams Club to name a few. A multi-cinima
movie theatre with Hollywood movies in English is also in the mall.
For for those experiencing withdrawal from these amenities, rest
assured they are there. Speaking of withdrawal, inexpensive
internet cafes can be easily found in both Progreso and Merida.

In Progreso (10 - 15 minutes away) you will find: great restaurants,
many of them seaside, a large supermarket and an outdoor market with
local produce. And of course the malecon with its beautiful beach
and view of the longest pier in the world!

The Yucatan is rich in Mayan history and many major ruins are within
a 3 hour radius, the closest just 20 minutes away. Many of them
have caves and fresh water cenotes as well. Explore Dzibilchaltun,
X-tambo, Uxmal, Izamal and of course Chichen Itza - one of the new
seven wonders of the world!
