The Inn at San Pancho, Home of the GataGorda (after our fat cat Whiskey),
spends its long tropical days lazing in the sun, peeking playfully down
from its perch above the small fishing village of San Pancho. A gated
compound with beautifully landscaped gardens reflecting the colors of each
Mexican season, the Inn’s centerpiece is its ample pool. With its cool
ice blue tiles, soothing waterfall, and an underwater bench for
reading and sunning on hot afternoons, the pool offers 360-degree
mountain and ocean views.
Our two casitas, Agave and Nopal, and the owner’s suite, Villa V!,
have much in common: large, airy rooms, Mexican tiles, comfortable
beds, fully-stocked kitchens, breezy arches, hand-carved and painted
furniture, original artwork, a collection of crafts from around the
country and mountain, jungle and ocean views. Still, each has its own
tasty flavor.
The Casita Nopal has a king size bed and is distinguished by its
hanging garden, a lovely place to eat breakfast or share Marguerites
while hummingbirds dip their tiny beaks into the brilliant flowers
that spill over the wall to the street below.
Casita Agave has a king size bed, and a comfortable banco that doubles
as a bed. It is enhanced by two additional spaces -- a front porch
that overlooks both our gardens and cascade pool, and an impressive
verandah where guests enjoy sweeping 180 degree views of pueblo, sea
and mountain.
Villa Victoria, the owner’s suite and lovely lower half of the Inn, is
a stunning open plan hacienda-style living space with a full kitchen,
sala, library, verandah, king size bedroom, and a “secret” garden.
Two banco/sofas – one in the sala, the other on the broad covered
verandah -- double as single beds. Richly furnished, surrounded by
flowers, steps from the pool, Villa V! is more than a rental, it’s a
home.
The Inn's latest addition is the enchanting El Papagayo, a cozy
cottage built just for two. Papagayo is an idyllic blend of Mexican
elements
with wrap-around windows, a beautiful palapa roof, handmade tiles, a
queen
bed and shipshape built-ins.
Private pool; ocean view; air-conditioning; fully stocked kitchen and
kitchenettes; satellite TV, DVD/CD players; gas grill; tri-weekly maid
service
Guests have the choice of dining out in one of San Pancho's three
gourmet restaurants in town, going native in one of the many taco and
burrito cafes, or having our cook Rosa prepare dinner for two for $20
plus grocery costs. Our casitas all have lovely dining areas with
views, but no veranda in town can claim a more romantic setting for
sunset dining than our lovely Villa V! Many guests choose to enhance
their San Pancho vacation by choosing a mixture of dining in and dining
out.
A short walk along San Pancho’s main street takes you to the pueblo’s
mile-long sand beach where Huichol Indians spread their jewelry and
pottery on colorful blankets, and sunset junkies find the right spot
to observe the most breathtaking part of every San Pancho day.
Offically known as San Francisco, the pueblo (just 45 minutes north of
the Puerto Vallarta International Airport) with its cobbled streets,
gourmet restaurants and eclectic mix of North Americans, Europeans and
Mexicans possesses, an elusive X Factor, an almost indecipherable
combination of ingredients.
Whether you spend the day floating in the pool, watching the light on
the ocean change minute to minute, walk to the lagoon and spy on
egrets, hawks and herons, sit in the garden reading a book or grab a
surf board and wait for the right wave, you’ll find the Inn at San Pancho
will touch you in all the right places.
