Bacalar Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals

Bacalar is set on the beautiful Laguna Bacalar (Lake Bacalar) known as the “Lake of Seven Colors,” in the southern state of Quintana Roo, Yucatan. It is so named for its seven hues reflected in its depths, and is one of the largest and most picturesque lakes in all of Mexico. The waters in the lake are warm, clear and carpeted with powdery limestone, making it excellent for swimming. Restrooms and dressing rooms are nearby the lake, as well as fruit vendors, dockside restaurants and campgrounds. Besides swimming, other popular activities in Bacalar include kayaking, diving, boating, fishing and mountain biking. Guided trips to nearby Mayan ruins are available, and the state Capital city of Chetumal is just 23 miles to the south. Bacalar has a charming, center town square where several traditional celebrations are held throughout the year. This is a quiet, tranquil town, far from the crowds and noise of the larger tourist spots. Other nearby seaside villages include Mahahual and Xcalac, and the beautiful Laguna Milagros and serene Cenote Azul are situated just before the town of Bacalar. Both have swimming, bathing areas, dressing rooms and cenote-side restaurants. For more shopping and entertainment, the city of Cancun is a four-hour drive directly north of Bacalar.

Bacalar Weather & Climate

Mexico's South-Central  region has a climate will be similar to that in Central Mexico, with elevated areas being cooler and more temperate. The climate gets distinctly hotter and more humid as you travel deeper into the south / southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula. As you reach the cities located within the Yucatan, proximity to the coast determines the temperature and humidity. In summer, coastal areas stay cooler due to trade winds, while interior jungles are humid, with higher temperatures. March and April are the driest months and September is generally the wettest month. Rainfall usually comes in short, sharp bursts and cools the atmosphere a little. The hurricane season is June to October. For those visiting in summer, July is generally drier and more predictable than August.
