Banderas Bay is a Pacific Ocean inlet located along the states of Nayarit and Jalisco in western Mexico, with the resort city of Puerto Vallarta at its head. This bay that is 27 miles long and 40 miles wide is the third largest bay in the world and North America’s largest. Banderas Bay has one long strand of beautiful beach that is divided into several unique areas. The North Coast has isolated beaches and quieter locations that have more of a traditional Mexican atmosphere, but plenty of family-run restaurants and businesses. The Puerto Vallarta hotel zones offer beachfront resorts, great restaurants and a wealth of activities for visitors to enjoy. The South Coast area has wild and rugged scenery with tiny Mexican villages and many areas only accessible by boat. Swimming, fishing, beachcombing, scuba diving, parasailing, golf, whale watching and sailing excursions and sea kayaking are all available along the Bay. This is one area that successfully combines Old World Mexico with the best in cosmopolitan living – five star resorts, upscale shopping and fine dining fuse with small fishing villages, and the romanticism of “Viejo Vallarta,” or “Old Town” Puerto Vallarta. Banderas Bay Weather & Climate

The Central Pacific Coast of Mexico is surrounded by jungle and receives 345 days of sunshine per year. Located on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, its sub-tropical climate is often compared to Hawaii's. Temperatures reach 90 degrees F (32 C) during the summer, along with high humidity, but at night, the onshore breeze from the Bay of Banderas brings cool air that makes for pleasant sleeping conditions. The rainy season is June through September, however, August and September are considered the two “rainy” months. On average, September has 15 wet days per month, while January has only two. Rain usually doesn’t start until late in the afternoon, leaving most of the day free for outdoor activities. The Bay of Banderas also offers shelter from harsh Pacific winds and hard weather in winter. December and January, the peak tourist season, are generally warm, sunny and dry, with comfortable, balmy nights.
