Cabo Pulmo Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
Cabo Pulmo
is a tiny beach community of 250 residents located on the Sea of Cortez in the East Cape Region of Baja California Sur, Mexico. It is south of Buena Vista off Mexico Highway 1. To reach Cabo Pulmo, take the paved road called La Ribera off Highway 1 east at km 93 (Las Cuevas.) This road passes through the small town of La Riberia (about 12 miles) and as you head south, you will come to a dirt road that takes into the village of Cabo Pulmo. At Cabo Pulmo, you will find one of the most popular beaches on the East Cape of Los Cabos. The village has a general store, two cantinas and four full-service restaurants. Cabo Pulmo has the only living coral reef in the Sea of Cortez, which makes it very popular with divers and snorklers. Other recreational activities available at Cabo Pulmo include windsurfing, swimming, fishing and hiking. The Mexican government has declared Pulmo Reef as an underwater nature preserve, therefore no fishing or anchoring is permitted at the reef. The abundant coral growth on the rocky reefs provides shelter and food for countless colorful fishes, many of which are not found anyplace else in the world. The nutrient rich water results in a profusion of plankton that forms the base of a vast food web of invertebrates, fishes, birds and mammals, thus making the Sea of Cortez one of the most productive waters in the world.
