Guadalajara Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
Guadalajara
is Mexico’s second largest city, and it is often said that this city is “more Mexican than Mexico itself.” Guadalajara is a place where traditions are preserved and the fiesta and siesta have become art forms. Rich in history, Guadalajara was founded in 1531 and numerous buildings in town date to the 16th century. The Plaza de la Liberacion is the center of historical activity, with horse-drawn carriages, a bubbling fountain and a gorgeous cathedral. There are also parks galore in Guadalajara, fine museums, art galleries and street performers. Guadalajara seems to have a church on every block, many that were built in the colonial era, some with elaborately carved facades, ornate Baroque alters and priceless oil paintings. Visitors can watch a bullfight in the city, visit one of two water parks or take the children to the zoo. “Charreadas” (equestrian competitions) also take place year round at the Lienzo Charros de Jalisco. Guadalajara has plenty of budget eateries, as well as expensive, upscale restaurants. The variety includes classic Mexican dishes, Continental delicacies and fresh seafood. For nightlife, there are a string of nightclubs, geared to the under-30 crowd. Guadalajara has beautiful shopping malls abuzz with activity and packed with mariachis, vendors and live performers. During the afternoon and evening, many cafes in town also have live music. Contemporary culture and historical graciousness – it’s all here in exciting Guadalajara.
