Guanajuato Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals

Guanajuato is located approximately 200 miles northwest of Mexico City, tucked into the mountains at the 6,700-foot level. It was once Mexico’s most prominent silver-mining city, and is now home to the annual International Cervantes Festival, a three-week celebration of the arts. Guanajuato is a charming city with twisting cobblestone walkways, colorful homes, shaded plazas, and a large subterranean roadway where a rushing river once coursed. The serpentine streets are lined with statues honoring silver barons and revolutionary heroes, with archways and courtyards that lead to numerous museums, theaters and cathedrals. The tourist office is a good place to begin a historic walking tour of the town. On weekends, student minstrels, dressed as medieval troubadours, serenade the public in the city squares. You will find modestly priced lodging in Guanajuato, as well as upscale properties near Jardin Union Square and on the outskirts of town. It is recommended that you make reservations six months in advance, if you are planning on attending the Cervantes Festival. For dining, there are an abundance of inexpensive restaurants in Guanajuato’s plazas, featuring traditional Mexican dishes and international fare.
