Lake Chapala Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
Lake Chapala
is located thirty miles south of Guadalajara and is Mexico’s largest inland lake, approximately 55 miles long and 15 miles wide. The jagged mountains that ring the lake and the tranquility of the lakeshore towns make Lake Chapala seem a world away from the bustling city. It’s a gorgeous area with stunning sunsets, where the humidity is just high enough to keep the brightly colored flowers blooming. Located along the shore of Lake Chapala are shops that offer high quality crafts such as pottery, hand-blown glass, jewelry and other works of art by local and Guadalajara artists. The small town of Chapala is busy on weekends where vendors sell refreshments and souvenirs, and the main street is lined with restaurants, shops and cafes. About five miles west of Chapala is the pretty town of Ajijic. This old Mexican village has cobblestone streets and white, tile-roofed houses that are wedged between the azure sea and emerald mountains. Ajijic has attracted a lot of writers and artists, and English is spoken widely here. Lake Chapala offers plenty of outdoor recreation, including golf and horseback riding, beautiful scenery and tropical vegetation, cool lake breezes and affordable lodging and dining. It makes a great escape in winter, or anytime of the year.
