Manzanillo has been called “the Emerald of the Pacific,” due to its blue-green waters and gold and black volcanic beaches. It is a major Mexican port and has twin “bahias,” Manzanillo and Santiago, along with twin towns of the same names. Located on the western coast of Mexico, between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco, Manzanillo is lively, friendly, and what it lacks in sophistication, it makes up for with its inviting beaches. They stretch along the two bays that are formed by the Santiago and Juluapan peninsulas. Bahia de Manzanillo has exclusive hotels and picturesque golden sands, but Bahia Santiago is better suited for swimming, sunning and water sports. Playa Miramar is at the south end of Santiago Bay and is popular with surfers and boogie boarders. The rocky point off Manzanillo’s peninsula’s and coves make for good snorkeling and scuba diving. Manzanillo has also been billed as the “Sailfish Capital of the World,” and fleets regularly haul marlin, dorado and tuna. The town’s specialty is, therefore, fresh fish and seafood, which is easy to come by and inexpensive in local restaurants. The town square is often the site of many festivities, where vendors line up to offer their homemade goodies and crafts. Manzanillo doesn’t sleep, either, when the sun sets. Trendy, tourist-oriented clubs are located along the strip and play the latest music all night long. Manzanillo Weather & Climate

The Central Pacific coast of Mexico shares the same latitude as Hawaii, and thus has a similar climate. From November through April, the weather is very pleasant; you can expect warm days and cool nights. In May, the climate starts to change--becoming more hot and humid, and building up to the beginning of rainy season, which generally runs June through November. It normally rains every three or four days, usually in the late afternoon or evening, cooling everything off. Also, the close proximity to the Sierra Madres, plus two bays provide better wind currents to keep the area fresh and cool. The higher altitudes in the surrounding hills are cooler with stronger breezes and more rain. Along the beach, there is generally a cooling afternoon sea breeze.
