Puerto Escondido Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
Puerto Escondido
was once a coffee shipping port and today is the first city along the Oaxaca Coast, southeast of Acapulco on Highway 200. The narrow road that leads into Puerto Escondido winds out of the mountains and runs parallel to the coast, surrounded on both sides by jungle. When the jungle parts for your first peek at the city, it looks like a thousand lights crawling out of the Pacific Ocean – a breathtaking spectacle. Beaches and waves await visitors, and Playa Zicatela is considered one of the world’s best surfing beaches. It is a long stretch of cream-colored sand that is battered by the “Mexican Pipeline,” (as this stretch of mighty surf is called.) In November, international surfing championships are held here and the town is filled with surfing aficionados. There are seven beaches in Puerto Escondido, and the safest for swimming and snorkeling are Puerto Angelito and Carrizalillo. Any time of the year is pleasant for exploring this small town in the heart of coffee country. For such a small town, Puerto Escondido has a large number of very good restaurants, where the cuisine focuses on fresh seafood. Lodging is plentiful, and inexpensive hotels are tucked into the hilly streets. Puerto Escondido is also home to a spa that claims its combination of wood, fire, rock and medicinal herbs will cleanse you – body and soul.
