San Blas Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
San Blas
is a popular port city, located in the state of Nayarit along the central Pacific Coast of Mexico. It offers a variety of attractions such as beautiful beaches, colonial architecture, points of historical interest, estuaries, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The town of San Blas was founded in the late 17th century during the colonial period and was such an important place of trade that the first customs house of New Spain was built here. Today, the city’s main attractions include the former Maritime Customs House, the Port Captaincy, and the Cerro de la Contaduria, containing traces of the Temple De San Basilio, which dates from the 17th century. Fort San Basilio is located atop a steep, rocky road that climbs through dense forest surrounding the town. The fort dates to the Spanish Colonial period and provides a dramatic view of the town and harbor. San Blas is known for its shrimp and several open air restaurants located on the beach serve a variety of seafood, including “camarones gigantes” – or “giant prawns.” The area surrounding San Blas has become a popular birding and wildlife-viewing site. Jungle and river tours can take you through the estuaries and waterways for some unique birding and ecological experiences. The Las Palmas Crocodile Refuge is located here and is a fascinating way to view these large reptiles in their natural environment. San Blas is a pleasant town and a nice place to enjoy the Mexican lifestyle and avoid the crowds of the larger resorts.
