Long considered by many to be an extension of Guaymas, San Carlos has a definite personality of its own. This resort town, on the other side of the rocky peninsula that separates Bacochibampo Bay from San Carlos Bay, has whitewashed houses with red-tile roofs tucked together along the water where yachts and motorboats are docked. San Carlos has an abundance of recreational pursuits, such as snorkeling, fishing, swimming, an 18-hole golf course, horseback riding, sunset cruises and whale watching cruises. A quiet stretch of sandy beach lies in the shadow of the jagged twin-peak Tetakawi Mountains, a sacred site where Indian warriors once gathered to gain spiritual strength. La Martinica Beach, near the marina, is a great place for snorkeling in shallow waters. Shopping in San Carlos is a treat where you will find something for everyone – silver jewelry, leather bags, baskets, woodcarvings, ceramics and Yaqui Indian masks. For dining, San Carlos has restaurants featuring regional favorites, as well as international cuisine and delicious, fresh seafood. Lodging is also varied, with vacation rental homes and condos available, and budget friendly, small hotels. |
