Santa Cruz Vacation Rentals, Condos, Villas and Beach RentalsSanta Cruz is a small village located approximately 85 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. Visitors should allow at least two hours or more to drive to Santa Cruz and are advised to travel during daylight hours only. This is not the Mexico of Cancun or the other large resort areas. Santa Cruz isn’t mentioned in most guidebooks and it is a place for the truly adventurous who are looking for authentic Mexico and a secluded place to unwind and relax. The area is blessed with year-round pleasant weather and turtles nest on the beaches during March through December, when, at that point, the whales begin their migration past the Santa Cruz coast. Santa Cruz is being reborn as a new adobe development, but progress in the area tends to be very slow. The town does maintain its traditional mercado, where Oaxacan handicrafts are sold and there are several hotels in town with various rates to fit everyone’s budget. Places to eat in Santa Cruz include a charming restaurant inside the Hotel Garza Carnela and an outdoor restaurant overlooking the water at the Hotel Casa Manana. The more upscale Club de Playa Etc. is located along the main road between San Blas and Santa Cruz. Locals operate numerous open-air restaurants along the beaches that line the main road and the Ruiz is located in the tiny village of Platanitos, which is found along the beach road just south of Santa Cruz. |
