Yelapa
is a unique village located on Banderas Bay about 30 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco, Mexico. Jungle and ocean surround the small town, and, although there is a road leading to Yelapa, it is most easily accessible by boat. Transportation to the village by way of “water taxi” departs daily from various places around Puerto Vallarta. This laid-back, tranquil little village is ideal for those looking to truly “get away from it all” – there is limited phone service and limited electricity in the village. The golden sand beach is a great place to swim, snorkel or parasail, or just relax and soak up the sun and enjoy a drink. You will disembark at the “playita,” or pier or directly on the beach in Yelapa from your water taxi. You can enjoy a meal at one of the many beachside restaurants, have your picture taken with an iguana, or take a horseback ride or walk to explore the village. Deep-sea fishing, kayaking, jungle tours, hikes to the waterfalls or private boat tours to the nearby Marietas Islands are other things to enjoy from Yelapa. Many people visit Yelapa for the day only, but accommodations are abundant for those who wish to stay. There are 3 hotels in town and many homes for rent by the day, week or month. Yelapa has approximately 2,000 full time residents and has been a favorite “hideaway” for some pretty famous people, such as Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.
